Session 1: The Professional Transcriber

In this session, the roles and responsibilities of the braille transcriber are presented. The session includes a discussion of transcriber certification, professional opportunities, transcriber organizations, and other information of use to the prospective transcriber. Exercises include an opportunity to proofread a short but challenging document full of problems!

1. Carefully read the session reading.
2. Proofread the exercise provided..
3. Read the braille presented in the exercise provided. Use the form to submit your answers.
4. Transcribe the text on tropospheric ozone presented in the reading. Transcriptions must be submitted electronically, no hardcopy braille is accepted.
5. OPTIONAL: complete the Braille Transcriber Interview Form. We will use the results of this form to update/change/improve the reading in this session on the Professional Transcriber.
