    Dedications

Dedications are brailled on a single page at the front of the first volume of braille. The text should be centered left to right and top to bottom.

    Cover Material

Cover material is any information that appears on the jacket of the book, reviews by other authors, promotional materials, biographical sketches, and the like. This information is brailled on a separate page, following the print format. No title or heading is used for this information unless one is used in print.

    Acknowledgments

Many authors place acknowledgments in their books, and these should be faithfully represented in braille. Some general guidelines for handling acknowledgements are as follows:

    • for short acknowledgements (rare, unfortunately!), you can opt to center the acknowledgements horizontally and vertically.
    • acknowledgements go in Volume I only
    • the word "Acknowledgements" should be included only if it is done so in print. Typically this is a heading that is centered with a blank line preceding and following.
    • typically acknowlegements that contain references to print material that is not brailled (such as maps, pictures) are not included in the braille edition

    Prefaces, Forwards, and Introductions

These items should be brailled each one beginning on a new page, with the heading centered with a blank line preceding and following. These items will be found in Volume I only.

    Appendices, Glossaries, Bibliographies, Indexes, etc.

These items are placed in the last volume, following the print example. As with prefaces, each one begins a new page with the heading centered. Blank lines precede and follow the heading. For brailling glossaries and indexes, the format from textbooks code should be used.
